Launch of six month consultation on care services

13th May 2008

Following the announcement of the launch of a six month consultation on care services in Britain, Helen Joy, CEO at Brunelcare comments:

“The debate over reforming the social care system in England is long overdue, but we must ensure that decisions about the future are driven by fairness , practicality and welfare: people over politics.

The Government should now be focusing on the increasing numbers of older people living with  dementia.  Figures from the Alzheimer Society’s research suggest that there will be 1.2million people aged over 85 living with dementia by 2051; and these are the people who will need housing, care and support over a longer period of time.  Through investing in research into finding better ways to manage and treat these kind of long term conditions in the present, we will become more prepared to provide the best care to those most in need and reduce the number of individuals who will need care in the future.?
