Legionnaires outbreak

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) is investigating an outbreak of legionnaires disease across England and Wales; the number of reported cases last month increased by more than 30%.

Ninety seven cases of the disease in August have been confirmed by the HPA, with a further 30 who are assumed to have become ill that month. One hundred and forty three cases in total have been reported in the six weeks since the 1 August.
