London hospital to cut jobs

17th February 2011

St George’s Hospital in Tooting, south London, is preparing to cut 500 jobs in an attempt to save more than £55m of savings this year.

Unison claims that the posts affected would include those of nurses and consultants and would lead to three wards closing, however the hospital – which employs more than 7,000 staff - say that while no decisions had been made about jobs cuts or ward closures, it was "not immune from the financial challenges facing the wider NHS".
