Long hospital waits have risen by a third

16th September 2011

Latest NHS figures show that the number of hospital patients in England waiting over the 18-week guarantee has risen by a third in the past year.

Of the 300,000 seen in July, more than 28,000 had waited beyond the target, which was 34% up from the same month last year and those who waited over six months rose by 55% to more than 9,000. However, 90.6% of all patients were still being seen within the time period, meeting the target to see 90% of patients in 18 week.
