Longer lasting hip replacements

1st January 2009

Research by a team from Portsmouth has highlighted how walking up and down stairs puts the most strain on artificial hips, compared with other routine activities.

Their findings are to be used to help improve cemented hip replacements to ensure they last longer and influence the advice given to patients on how to reduce the strain on their new joint by lifestyle changes. The work at the University of Portsmouth and Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham has been funded by the Arthritis Research Campaign.
