Malaria warning

1st May 2007

It has been revealed that malaria claimed the lives of eight Britons last year.

As the main holiday season gets under way, experts are warning travellers and holiday makers that malaria still poses a threat to their health. There were 1,758 cases of the disease amongst British travellers last year resulting in the eight deaths.  Nearly 60% of the incidences derived from the tropics.  The Health Protection Agency is warning holiday makers to take preventative medicine before they travel and to wear protective clothing and sprays when abroad to protect themselves from the potentially lethal disease.
