Man able to eat again thanks to 'smart pill'

11th January 2010

Doctors at Guy's and St Thomas' have helped a man with severe acid reflux to eat normally again after using a 'smart pill', known as the Bravo system, to make an accurate diagnosis.

After the diagnosis the patient, Dave Potts, was able to have an operation to improve his condition. Dr Terry Wong, his consultant gastroenterologist, said: "Dave is a classic case of where Bravo can help, as it established 100% that he had acid reflux. Before Bravo he would not have had the operation, because his reflux could have had other causes such as a hypersensitive oesophagus."
