ME virus is a myth

6th January 2010

Researchers at Imperial College London have said they have not found evidence to support the idea that a virus is the cause of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME).

Professor Myra McClure, one of the team at Imperial, said: "We are confident that our results show there is no link between XMRV and chronic fatigue syndrome, at least in the UK." She said they had employed very precise DNA testing, known as polymerase chain reaction, to search for virus. "If it had been there, we would have found it," she added.
