Measles outbreak worry

22nd September 2011

Health experts, fearing an outbreak of measles, have urged students to ensure they are vaccinated against the disease.

Figures from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) show the number of confirmed cases so far this year is already more than double the total number for 2010 with 777 cases by the end of July, compared with 374 cases for the whole of last year. The HPA is concerned there will be an outbreak as students return to university campuses and now GP practices in university towns and cities have been alerted.
