Midwives need to cut admin and travel time

7th July 2010

Research carried out by the NHS Confederation's Foundation Trust Network has found that midwives spend two days each week on admin and travelling.

The researchers examined the normal working day of midwives at 13 trusts and found that they spent 40% of their time on administration and travel. Royal College of Midwives deputy general secretary Louise Silverton told Nursing Times: "It can be hard to schedule appointments in the community [if] someone rings you to say they are ready to start breastfeeding in half an hour and you are at the other end of your patch."
