'Missed' cancer cases review

17th January 2008

Staff from Wrexham Maelor Hospital are trying to contact patients treated by a pathologist who failed to diagnose cases of cancer.

The hospital says that three patients had been told they had nothing to worry about, despite some tissue tests showing signs of cancer, while another 12 cases might have been “misreported. The errors relate to samples reported on by pathologist Dr Roger Williams during April to September 2007. Dr Williams who is a former medical director of the North East Wales NHS Trust was said to be “extremely distressed by what had happened.
