Money made from patient calls

16th May 2008

The Times reports that more than twelve health service hospital trusts have “revenue-sharing telephone numbers so they can generate income from patients' calls.

Numbers which are prefixed by the codes 0844 or 0845 cost the dialler 30 pence per minute more than if they called the "standard local number". "Hospitals can also receive a rebate on incoming calls by using the numbers".
