Monitor accused of intimidation

4th November 2009

Colchester Hospital University Foundation Trust has accused Monitor of being “grossly unfair” and “intimidatory” and claims it is considering legal action against the regulator.

The response follows an announcement by Monitor in September that the trust had breached its standards; and that it was failing to meet healthcare standards, to co-operate with other NHS bodies and failing in overall governance. However, the trust says in its view the entire process has been disproportionate and unfair and that Monitor had “ignored large amounts of evidence of a favourable nature”.
