More data loss for the NHS

18th July 2008

Details of data loss by NHS trusts in Wales have been revealed.

Fourteen computers have been stolen from NHS trusts in Wales in the last three years and six NHS trusts have experienced more than 150 incidents of confidential data being lost or stolen from hospital grounds. As well as lost and stolen PCs and laptops, data was also lost through mixed up paperwork, lost post and misdirected faxes. Other breaches occurred when staff allowed relatives to read confidential files and clerical errors led to more staff viewing files than necessary.
