More must be done to tackle bad care

17th April 2009

The head of the new Care Quality Commission has warned that NHS staff - particularly doctors - must do more to tackle bad care.

Chairman Barbara Young said there was a culture of silence among health staff, highlighted recently by the scandal at Stafford Hospital, which was criticised last month for its appalling standards of care. As head of the new regulatory body, set up at the start of April to cover health and social care, she said that she was determined to make quality a priority.
