New £4m kidney unit opened

17th March 2008

A new £4m kidney unit has been officially opened at West Wales General Hospital in Carmarthen by health minister Edwina Hart.

Funded mainly by the Welsh Assembly Government, the new unit will allow more patients to be treated locally and also advance kidney dialysis capacity in West Wales. The kidney unit will provide 30 stations allowing 120 patients to be treated based on two sessions a day; six days a week compared to the previous 16 dialysis stations for 80 patients.
