New highs and lows

28th September 2006

Just what we needed at the end of September; a record number of hits on the website. Since we launched, the daily highs have risen from around 2000 in the first month to over 7000 today with visitors coming in from around the globe.

So why the low? Quite simply that we monitor our progress using the Alexa website ranking system which is a reasonable indicator of where we fit in relation to other sites and provides an independent assessment of our popularity compared to all the other websites on the planet. It's been a bit temperamental of late but we've risen to our lowest ranking ever (the number that is; it's funny how our brains automatically invert high and low numbers when the word "ranking" is used) and we are now settled on a weekly average of about 40,000, beating all but the BMJ to web traffic volumes in the healthcare news department.
