New infection resistant keyboards

25th April 2008

Special keyboards have been provided for use in hospitals across England in a move designed to combat the spread of hospital infections.

Connecting for Health has procured 7,500 “infection resistant keyboards in a move it says will improve patient safety. Originally developed for University College London Hospital in a pilot project, the keyboards are completely flat and are covered with a hypoallergenic material resistant to bug growth. They incorporate a flashing light to remind users to regularly clean the surface and sensors to measure the effectiveness of cleaning them.
