New renal tsar appointed

Dr Donal O'Donoghue has been appointed to help lead government policy on renal services.

His role will include driving forward the Renal Services National Service Framework which was published in 2004. Dr O'Donoghue was involved in the development of the NSF and has since supported its implementation, particularly through co-chairing the Renal Advisory Group.

Dr O'Donoghue is a former president of the British Renal Society and Treasurer of the Renal Association. He has been a consultant renal physician at Salford Royal Hospitals Foundation Trust since 1992.
