NHS care 'failed' teenager

7th October 2010

The family of a teenager who died after she was “lost” in an NHS hospital have blamed her death on a string of failures by medical staff.

In a statement issued after a coroner identified seven failings in the care given to Clementine Nicholson, the 17-year-old’s parents described the circumstances of her death as 'truly shocking'. The inquest hearing at Coventry Coroner's Court heard the teenager died of meningococcal septicaemia after communication failures saw her moved to two inappropriate wards rather than to intensive care.
