NHS children's services reviewed

15th October 2009

Health secretary Andy Burnham has announced that NHS policies on safeguarding children are to be reviewed following the Baby Peter case.

Former Healthcare Commission chairman, Prof Sir Ian Kennedy, has been asked to complete the review by March 2010. As part of the process he will also examine how the NHS works with its partners. Mr Burnham told a healthcare workers' conference in Merseyside lessons from that the "terrible tragedy" of the case needed to be absorbed "at every possible level".
