NHS Choices is now a certified member of The Information Standard

12th July 2010
NHS Choices, the UK's most popular online source for health information, has become a certified member of The Information Standard. NHS Choices can now display The Information Standard quality mark on its information materials including fact sheets, informative articles and desktop health management tools.
The Information Standard scheme and subsequent quality mark were devised as a way to drive up standards among information producers, and help the public to recognise and choose reliable sources for their health and social care information. NHS Choices achieved certification having demonstrated that it has the necessary processes in place to ensure that its information is accessible, accurate, appropriately researched, authoritative, clear, complete, readable, relevant, secure, up-to-date and well-designed.
Angela Coulter PhD, Hon FFPH, Hon FRCGP, an independent healthcare analyst who advises on the scheme, commented: “NHS Choices is now able to display The Information Standard quality mark and so will immediately be able to differentiate itself from competitors, as producing high quality information that people can rely upon. As NHS Choices is one of the most popular providers of health information to the public its certification is an important milestone for the scheme.”
Gary Ashby, programme director at NHS Choices, commented: “NHS Choices is delighted to be recognised as a producer of good quality information that people can trust.”
