NHS data security breaches

26th March 2008

Several NHS organisations have admitted security breaches involving confidential patient records over the past year.

The incidents have been reported as part of the Department of Health’s review of security arrangements and follow the loss of data on hundreds of thousands of patients from nine NHS trusts in January.

Dossiers compiled by SHAs reveal a raft of flaws in NHS data security and they are currently reviewing their procedures with the NHS East of England and NHS South West promising to publish all their security breaches in the future.
