NHS Direct cost patients £1m

Research has shown that call charging for 0845 numbers to NHS Direct have cost patients over £1 million.

Campaigner David Hickson has estimated that the NHS Direct has made almost £1.1 million from such calls. NHS Direct has denied receiving any money. A spokeswoman said it was paying "the market rate the BT for the usage of our 0845 service".
