NHS Direct pilots new treatment

11th June 2010

NHS Direct is trialling a new Online Patient Decision Aid (OPDA) in eight sites to help patients with osteoarthritis of the knee make more informed choices about their treatment.

The aim of the tool is to assist patients who are unsure about which treatment to take because of a lack of clinical evidence that one drug is better than another and will give information about expected risks, benefits and likely outcomes of different treatments. Arthritis Research UK has welcomed the pilot project.
