NHS funding debate

7th July 2014
The funding of the NHS has caused debate from leading figures.

NHS (2)In a letter to The Times, they say the ageing population is currently causing huge issues and that things cannot continue as they are.

Without action, an extra £30bn will be needed by 2020 at current levels.

The are asking for an independent conversation across all politcal parties to think of the way forward for the "scope, provision and funding of health and social care".

The signatories say that in 50 years' time, at least two-and-a-half times as many patients will suffer from multiple health problems.

Their letter warns that "business as usual won't do", and that there needs to be "an honest, open dialogue between politicians and citizens" and that it should start now.
