NHS Isle of Wight to separate for April 2012

21st December 2011

NHS Isle of Wight has announced it is to separate its provider and commissioner functions by next April.

The Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth PCT cluster considered the business case for breaking up NHS Isle of Wight at its board meeting in November. Currently, a single organisation commissions and provides all NHS services on the island. The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is planned to be set up in April, to provide all acute, community, mental health, ambulance and prison services, a move it sees as creating a platform towards future foundation trust status.
