NHS IT minister returns

9th January 2007

Health Minister Andy Burnham and Lord Philip Hunt are set to take on the reform agenda after Lord Warner quit his post.

The former minister for reform resigned from his government post after more than three years in the role. He left at the end of December.

Andy Burnham will be in charge of system reform and one of his most important new roles will be ensuring the NHS gets a good settlement in the next round of spending. He will also continue to control finance and delivery.

Lord Hunt, the former NHS IT minister, returns to take over the same role, and will become health spokesman in the House of Lords. As well as taking on responsibility for the National Programme for IT, he will also be in charge of NHS workforce policy and some quality issues.
