NHS online CBTs recommended

28th August 2009

Mental health expert Dr Tim Kendall, who led the drawing up of national guidelines on depression, has called for the NHS to offer online psychological counselling for people with depression.

A Lancet study of online cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) has shown that it more than doubled the chances of recovery. Dr Kendall believes online access could become part of the drive to widen access to CBT. One in six people experience depression at some point in their lives and the reliance on anti-depressants has risen significantly in the last 10 years.
