NHS 'safe in our hands' says Labour

11th September 2009

Labour's junior health minister Mike O'Brien has said the party will concentrate on "quality and innovation" to help the NHS through the recession.

Speaking at a seminar put on by the Westminster Health Forum, Mr O'Brien said: "We recognise that there are tighter budgets; our focus is on the NHS getting the funding it needs and we will not go back on that. Financial constraints do occur but quality does not have to be affected and it won’t. We must not slash workforce or cut services, there will be no return to Thatcherite slash and burn."
