NHS staff turnover figures

9th December 2011

Staff turnover figures show that the NHS workforce shrank by 2% in the year to August.

Analysis of the figures by HSJ has also revealed regional variations with 12% more staff leaving than joining in the South East Coast region while the North West had 61% leavers than recruits. Provisional NHS Information Centre statistics highlight regional variations in the loss of staff through redundancies, frozen posts and changed skill mix. Over the year, 96,718 staff left the NHS, 31% more than the 73,790 who joined it.
