NHS trust to receive loan

24th September 2010

Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has announced that the cash-strapped Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Berkshire is to receive an £18m loan from the government.

There are concerns over the financial position of the trust, which is looking to cut its workforce by 450 staff, though Mr Lansley insisted the loan was not a "bail out". He stressed the loan was conditional on the trust demonstrating that it will meet its ongoing commitments in terms of "quality and financial stability".
