NICE criticised over skin cancer review

6th July 2009

NICE's announcement that it will review its skin cancer guidance has been met with criticism from the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD).

A meeting in April this year between the BMA, BAD and RCGP revealed worries about NICE guidance which restricted GPs from carrying out minor surgery without the assistance of dermatologists. Dr Mark Goodfield, chairman of BAD, said: "We are very disappointed with this decision since we believed that an earlier meeting between all interested parties had reached agreement. The position of GP representatives seems to have changed since the meeting."
