NICE u-turn on lipids guidance

21st May 2008

NICE is to execute a "u-turn" in the guidance it produces for lipids and reverse its decision on the new risk score for cardiovascular disease.

The change follows severe criticism of the QRISK assessment system. Professor Julia Hippisley-Cox, QRISK researcher and professor of primary care at the University of Nottingham, asked: "Can NICE publish its equity impact assessment and if it hasn’t done one why not? Does it have any worries about widening health inequalities in our most disadvantaged communities?"
