Northumberland PCT cuts

13th March 2008

Local Medical Committee negotiators fear that some GP practices in Northumberland will be forced to make redundancies after being forced to accept a new contract.

The contract affects 40 PMS practices covering 288,000 patients, which amounts to 90% of the local population. Northumberland LMC secretary Dr Jane Lothian said GPs in the area had no choice but to accept the deal as the primary care trust was preparing to bring in private providers. Practice budget cuts have been capped at 3% for the first year and 6% for the second.
