Nurse held at gunpoint

09092006_drugabuse1.jpgAn intruder walked onto a hospital ward and held a nurse at gunpoint demanding drugs.

The female nurse at Birmingham City Hospital was unharmed in the incident.

The intruder grabbed the nurse and threatened to shoot her unless he was given drugs in exchange for her release.

Staff managed to raise the alarm and there was a 90-minute stand-off before police were able to arrest the man.

Details have not been released on whether the weapon was real or imitation.

The hospital forms part of the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
