Nurse practitioners accused of 'failing to deal with patients'

15th January 2009

A GP has said nurse practitioners are being employed by the health service to speed up care and are not offering patients "thoroughness and satisfactory management".

GP Dr Mandy Pegman, of Tyne and Wear, wrote in The Times: "When I refer a patient to the hospital for a consultant’s opinion I find increasing numbers return to me, confused and dissatisfied, having seen an ‘advanced practitioner’ or ‘specialist (nurse) consultant’ who has failed to deal with their problem."
