Nurses need admin support

17th February 2009

A survey by GS1 UK for the Nursing Times has shown that nurses spent up to nearly 20% of their time on "non-essential" admin duties.

Janet Davies, Executive Director of Nursing and Service Delivery, Royal College of Nursing (RCN), said: "The first priority for any nurse is spending time with patients delivering high quality care.  This lack of admin support for nurses is a problem that goes beyond access to medical supplies."

I suggest one member of staff be employed in each hospital for central nursing administration, and each ward be equipped with a pc where every nurse may, at one glance, check and/or feed appropriate info. This can then be finally processessed by our aforementioned central admin employee.
