Obesity fight pharmacists to help

23rd May 2008

The clinical director of the National Obesity Forum Dr David Haslam has could for GPs to work side-by-side with community pharmacists to help tackle the growing obesity epidemic.

Dr Haslam, who is a Hertfordshire-based GP, said the role of pharmacists in weight management was currently under-valued.  A European survey of 300 pharmacists, included 50 in the UK, showed 94% believing they should offer advice on weight loss medication and healthy eating and 92% wanting to offer advice on behavioural changes to support weight loss.
