Online pharmacies health risk

20th August 2007

People are being put at risk from fake medicines because of a lack of regulation of online pharmacies.

Researchers from industry fraud advisers MarkMonitor carried out analysis on 3,160 sites and found medicines for sale without a prescription, others that were possibly counterfeit or out of date and that sites were also failing to safeguard details of customers. Experts are warning against buying medicines online while the Royal Pharmaceutical Society is planning to roll out a logo scheme to help consumers identify genuine sites.
