Out-of-hours standards not met

12th September 2007

The Liberal Democrats have claimed that many NHS trusts are failing to meet core standards over the care of patients needing out-of-hours GP services.

The party says that data from 92 of the 152 primary care trusts show problems in areas such as assessing patients and that these figures are disturbing. Another area of concern is that trusts do not meet standards in answering patient calls quickly enough.

However, the Department of Health said previous research has shown patients were generally happy with the out-of-hours care they received.
