Over 70's miss breast screening

6th October 2006

Breakthrough Breast Cancer has said that women over 70 may be missed for screening because they do not request appointments and are not invited by the NHS Breast Screening Programme. It is calling for a review of how breast screening is organised for women over 70.

Ninety per cent of women in this age group have never requested a screening appointment and 97 per cent do not realise they are at risk, said the charity.
