Paediatric staff criminal records not checked for three years

16th January 2013

HSJ has highlighted human resource failings at the Barts and the London Trust.

It has reported how managers were unable to guarantee paediatric staff had passed Criminal Records Bureau checks for three years. Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act shows the trust’s board was alerted to the problem in 2009 and began a project that October to recheck all 7,500 staff. However, three years later the process was still incomplete with some staff unchecked in high risk areas as recently as January 2012.
