Patient data lost by health worker

4th July 2008

A memory stick containing the personal information of 137 patients has been lost by a health worker in Scotland.

Copies of letters sent to GPs over two years had been stored on the device that was lost by the community worker with NHS Lothian, who now faces disciplinary action. NHS Lothian says there is no evidence to suggest the memory stick was stolen but is contacting all patients involved and is offering face-to-face meetings to address any concerns that they have. A helpline has also been set up.
