Patient Opinion website launched

8th March 2006

Patient Opinion is a new on-line service offering patients the opportunity to provide feedback on their experiences in hospital.

The service was launched nationally in January after a four-month pilot in South Yorkshire. The aim is to provide information both to the organisations themselves, by streaming opinions as a live feed, and to support patient choice. The website allows patients to rate the hospital and provide feedback in a number of areas including the quality of medical and nursing care, catering, car parking and cleanliness.

So far, about 50% of feedback is proving to be complementary while up to 40% is critical of services.

To date the site has been financed with NHS funding but from April will rely on Trust subscriptions costing anything from £5,000 depending on the level of subscription required.
