Patients at risk in Cumbria hospitals

21st May 2012

Hospital logs shown to the BBC have revealed medical staff at two hospitals in Cumbria think patients could be in danger of poor or dangerous treatment.

Log entries by medical staff at Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven over a two week period last month showed concern for too few beds, monitors and staff and added that the A&E department was  "dangerous" and "not even meeting basic nursing care for patients". Dr Heather Wood, a retired hospital inspector with the Healthcare Commission, looked at the information and said it should "set alarm bells ringing".
