PbR coding errors

The results of a new study by the Audit Commission have shown that "one in ten episodes of acute hospital care is incorrectly coded under Payment by Results".

Research revealed that 50,000 episodes – which equates to £73 million spent under Payment by Results – and found errors between trusts which ranged from 0.3% to 52%. This showed a gross error of approximately £3.5 million, or around 5% of the sample.
