People unaware of alcohol calorie content

17th April 2009

A survey carried out as part of the government’s drive to curb people’s drinking habits has revealed that many people are unaware of the calorie content of alcohol.

Four in 10 did not know a glass of wine has the same calories (120) as a slice of cake or that a pint of lager and a small sausage roll have 170 each. Some 2,000 adults were questioned as part of the Know Your Limits campaign, which also revealed that the average wine drinker consumed 2,000 calories a month from alcohol.
