People with gout wear poor footwear

5th October 2011

Researchers have found a link between gout and inadequate footwear.

A study has shown that a worrying proportion of people with gout appear to wear inadequate footwear and this may contribute to their levels of pain and disability. Researchers at AUT University in Auckland reached their conclusion after assessing 50 patients, all of whom had been diagnosed with gout and had enrolled at local rheumatology clinics. Arthritis Research UK is funding a major new clinical trial looking at the effectiveness of a nurse-led package of care in gout patients.
