Polypill could save thousands

6th May 2008

A team of scientists at the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine in London have developed a "polypill" which could stop heart attacks and strokes.

The team say that the pill could help to prevent 100,000 deaths annually in people over the age of 55. Professor Nicholas Wald, the institute's director, said: "We want to get it out there so people can use it. The founders of our group would like this pill to be available to everyone for about £1 a day."
